A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to direct the joint legislative education oversight committee to study the Future-Ready core High school graduation requirements adopted by the state board of education.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  The Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee shall study the Future-Ready Core High School Graduation Requirements (Core Course of Study) adopted by the State Board of Education.  The Committee shall consider the purposes and goals of the Core Course of Study and any unintended consequences that may arise as a result of the implementation of the Core Course of Study. The State Board of Education shall not implement the Core Course of Study until the Committee completes its study. The Committee shall report the results of its study to the 2008 Regular Session of the 2007 General Assembly.

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
